Medical officers provided DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) vaccine immunization to elementary school students in Cibitung district, West Java, on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. The DPT vaccine is an effort by the Indonesian government to control the spread of Diphtheria disease that has infected 95 cities, in 20 provinces until November 2017, and since January-November 2017 there are 591 Diphtheria cases, 35 of them died. Diphtheriae is a deadly disease caused by the infectious and dangerous bacteria Corynebacterium Diptheriae, which attacks the upper respiratory tract with a pathogenic toxin, causing complications of myocarditis (inflammation of the central heart wall lining), renal failure, respiratory failure and circulatory failure. Diphtheria produces less severe symptoms and signs of fever, 38ºC, the appearance of pseudomembrane or membranes in grayish white throat, which is easily bleeding if released, swallows pain, sometimes accompanied by enlarged lymph nodes, and cultivation of soft neck tissue is called bullneck.
